2007

  • Chef Somers arrived to help revive the NHS Culinary Arts Program

  • 17 students enrolled in culinary arts

  • 17 State Culinary Champions

  • Students served 200 guests in the Poe gym for our first formal banquet

  • 19 State Culinary Champions

2009

  • Students serve pre-game meals for soccer and football teams

  • Hosted end of season sports banquets

  • 63 banquets completed

  • Student-led cafe opens

  • 23 State Culinary Champions


2010

  • 68 students enrolled in culinary arts program

  • 84 banquets served

  • 23 State Culinary Champions


2011

  • Program expands and award-winning Chef Blankenship joins culinary program

  • Catered school district and Board of Education dinners

  • 96 banquets

  • Cafe grows in popularity

  • 37 State Culinary Champions

2013

  • Chef Rutt joins the NHS Culinary leadership team

  • 29 State Culinary Champions

2014

  • Chef Brodsky joins the NHS Culinary leadership team

  • 200 students enrolled in culinary arts program

  • Foods and Culinary Arts program join together to serve 250 students

  • 38 State Culinary Champions

2015

  • NHS Culinary no longer competes for ribbons

  • Program goal: 100% of program graduations employed or enrolled in college

2016

  • Innovative bakery kitchen was built from the ground up

  • Partnership with Duke Regional Hospital to provide real-world experience and cooking positions with full benefits

2017

  • Introduction of tent kitchens to serve the community


2018

  • Chef John Boretti, CIA graduate and Art Institute Professor joins the team.
